Showcasing Finnish design and combining both visual and deeper societal trend content, in an interdisciplinary and unique way.

Quirky, colourful and surprising

What the HEL is much more than a curated design installation. It showcases the best design from Finland, creating rich and colourful worlds to show the products.

The boundaries of art, design, crafts and innovations are blurring, therefore the installation also shows examples of interesting multidisciplinary Finnish phenomena outside the area of traditional design products.

Trends of living and interiors do not come out of nowhere, What the HEL also serves as a trend exhibition showing visual trends but linking them always to deeper societal trends, phenomena and megatrends.

Susanna Björklund has created the concept and curated the installation for IDS Vancouver fair.

What the HEL is an ongoing living project to be updated, hopefully to be seen around the world in the future.

Samuji

Samuji is a creative studio and design house founded in Finland in 2009. ”A Love of necessary things, simple functionality, kindness.” These are values that we hold dear in everyday life and that lead our work. Coming from the Nordic, we are at home with the understated, organic, function-oriented aesthetic we grew up with. But there is something even more fundamental to Scandinavian design that we believe in, which is a democratic approach to design and life. Design can be kind, approachable and inclusive.

Our homeware line Samuji Koti was introduced in fall 2014. The word Koti means home in Finnish. Along with our own designs, Samuji Koti brings together traditional houseware from different regions and cultures. The collection consists of tableware, print fabrics, textiles and homeware items. Our ready-to-wear collection presents a complete wardrobe for women, bringing together two separate lines: Samuji Classic and Samuji Seasonal. Samuji Classic carries permanent, timeless clothes and accessories, while Samuji Seasonal is a more bohemian and colourful collection renewed seasonally. The collections are available in our shops in Helsinki and New York, and online.

Susanna has created the concept and curated the installation for IDS Vancouver fair.

What the HEL is an ongoing living project to be updated, hopefully to be seen around the world in the future.

Susanna is a Futures Thinker, Designer and Journalist. She works extensively in many areas and interests, however, design is her first love. Her main job is to look for a change in everything she sees, to gather information and to analyse everything in a wider context. Simply to garner ideas where the futures might be heading.

She is an International Speaker digging deeper in the futures of societal changes, mega-trends and design. Instead of the future of technology, her main interests are in softer values, customer centricity, sustainability and changes in consumer behaviour.

Susanna is thrilled to have been invited to IDS to showcase Finnish design.

More information on her work can be found on her company website, Ennetool Oy and her own site at SusannaBjorklund.com
